Are you an undergraduate junior or senior dreaming of becoming a physician? The Waco AHEC Future Docs program is designed to help you take the next step toward medical school—especially if you come from a disadvantaged community. We’re especially seeking students from Baylor University, Texas A&M University, and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, though all eligible applicants in our region are encouraged to apply.
Part of the Advancing Healthcare Careers Initiative and funded in part by the Boston Scientific Foundation, this program offers targeted support to help you succeed on your path to becoming a physician.
Eligibility & Application Details:
Be a college junior or senior with intent to pursue an MD or DO
Be prepared to take the MCAT
Have a 3.2 cumulative GPA in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math (BCPM) coursework
Whether you’re polishing your med school application or preparing for interviews, AHEC Future Docs provides the tools, confidence, and connections to help you succeed.

Deadline to apply is September 30th, 2025. Program fee of $449 to go towards MCAT Prep Course.

Access free or low-cost MCAT prep resources through your AHEC! We connect you with test services or funding options to help you succeed.
Mock Interview Sessions
Boost your confidence and interview skills with personalized mock interview sessions led by local physicians, educators, and professionals.
Personal Statement Review
Get expert feedback on your med school personal statement! Join review workshops or one-on-one sessions with advisors and professionals.
1:1 Application Advising
From picking schools to perfecting your essays, AHEC offers one-on-one advising to help you navigate the entire med school application process.
Physician Job Shadowing
Explore healthcare careers firsthand by shadowing local physicians and providers. AHEC helps you coordinate placements and meet all requirements (HIPAA, etc.).

Networking & Mentoring
Be matched with a physician, med student, or health pro who will guide you through your journey. AHECs recruit and support mentors for your success. Connect with peers, alumni, and professionals through Future Docs events, mixers, and study groups. Build your network and find your support system!
How to Apply
The application includes biographical information, academic program information, and a personal statement. The personal statement is a maximum of 500 words and should be included before you submit your application. Targeting students from Baylor University, Texas A&M University, and University of Mary Hardin Baylor.
Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, September 30th, 2025.

The program runs from October through March, with required monthly session attendance.

We will have a self-paced option through The Princeton Review. This will be shared cost, with you paying $400 towards the resource and we will cover the rest.
Students who choose to use a different MCAT prep resource may be eligible for up to $500 in reimbursement, with appropriate documentation and approval.
All students are expected to engage in regular MCAT preparation throughout the program.

No. Future Docs is specifically designed for students who plan to apply to allopathic (MD) or osteopathic (DO) medical schools. We encourage students pursuing PA, dental, or nursing programs to explore other pipeline opportunities better aligned with those goals.
